This page explains what professional body piercing needles are, how the Mosquito self-releasing system works, which gauges are available, and how Australian studios can order by the box or at volume. It is written for professional piercers and studio managers. It is not a guide to piercing yourself.
What are professional body piercing needles?
Professional body piercing needles are hollow, single-use needles used by trained piercers to create a channel for jewellery. Many piercers use a cannula-style needle: a sharp inner needle sits inside a thin plastic tube (the cannula). After the piercing, the needle is withdrawn and the cannula stays in place, guiding the jewellery through.
Needles sold for professional piercing are usually supplied individually packaged and intended for single use. Each needle is opened at the point of use and disposed of afterwards in line with the studio's sharps and infection-control procedures.
The Mosquito self-releasing system
With many traditional cannula needles, the piercer cuts the tube with scissors before jewellery transfer. Mosquito piercing needles are designed so the cannula releases from the needle hub after the piercing, without being cut. That removes a step from the procedure and keeps the workflow consistent from one piercing to the next.
Technical specifications are pending supplier confirmation. You can read more on how the self-releasing system works.

Professional single-use supply
Each Mosquito needle is individually packaged, ready for professional single-use applications. Boxes contain 50 individually packed needles, which suits studios that want to keep consistent stock of each gauge without opening bulk packs.
Choosing needle sizes for your studio
Needle gauge is normally matched to the gauge of the jewellery being inserted, following your studio's own procedures and training. Most studios keep several gauges on hand. If you are setting up a new studio or reviewing your stock, colour coding makes it simple to check which sizes are running low. If you are unsure which gauges suit your services, contact us and we can talk through typical professional stock levels.

Why professional piercers use purpose-designed needles

For busy studios, a self-releasing cannula, individually packed packs and clear colour coding all help keep procedures efficient and repeatable.
